modeling process
Spatial Dynamics (Spring 2018)
Instructor: Kai Franz
I combine the 3D models of a mushroom and a cat together to create this paper sculpture. By unrolling the mesh into scripts of connected triangles, I convert the 3D model into 2D planes. The sculpture has its arms extending forward like it is guarding something. Therefore, I choose the image of bronze with Chinese ancient calligraphy engraved on as the texture map. It is a burial object to honor and protect the tomb owner. I hollow out the characters, imitating the craftman’s labor of engraving the characters. The stone piles around it act as the indication of more guards.
